Interpole
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003059
A small auxiliary pole placed between the main poles of a DC motor or generator. Its purpose is to improve commutation by neutralizing the armature reaction flux in the interpolar region. Interpoles carry current proportional to the armature current and are wound to produce a magnetic field that opposes the distorting effect of the armature reaction.
