Synchronous speed
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005829
The rotational speed of the magnetic field in an alternating current (AC) induction motor, determined by the frequency of the power supply and the number of magnetic poles in the stator winding. The rotor of an induction motor always turns at a slightly lower speed, known as the actual speed, and the difference is called slip. For a synchronous motor, the rotor rotates at the exact same speed as the magnetic field, hence the name.
