Squirrel-cage motor
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005574
A type of AC induction motor where the rotor consists of a cylinder of laminated steel with conductive bars embedded in its surface, connected by shorting rings at each end. This simple and rugged construction, resembling a squirrel cage, eliminates the need for brushes or slip rings, making the motor reliable and low-maintenance. The speed of a squirrel-cage motor is determined by the frequency of the AC supply and the number of poles in the stator winding.
