Slip
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003451
The difference in velocity between two or more fluid phases flowing together in a pipe, where the lighter, less dense phase moves faster than the heavier, denser phase. In an oil-water-gas flow, gas moves fastest and water moves slowest due to density and viscosity differences. This velocity difference, known as slip velocity, is a key parameter in multiphase flow calculations and is expressed in units of length per time, such as feet per minute.
