Stick/slip

An erratic drilling phenomenon characterized by alternating periods of high torque and low or zero torque, caused by the drill bit intermittently sticking to and then releasing from the formation. This torsional vibration can damage drilling equipment and reduce drilling efficiency. It is often observed in hard, abrasive formations.
