Slip and cut

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003452

A procedure performed on drilling lines to redistribute wear and extend their service life. The driller slips a measured length of wire rope from the storage reel through the crown block and traveling block, then cuts off the worn end that has been subjected to the most stress. This practice maintains the integrity of the drilling line, which is typically replaced after a certain number of ton-miles of service.
