Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003369
A grooved wheel or pulley that supports and guides a wire rope or cable, commonly found in the crown block and traveling block of a drilling rig. Sheaves are designed to reduce friction and change the direction of force, allowing heavy loads such as the drill string to be lifted and lowered. The diameter and groove profile of a sheave are selected to match the specific wire rope being used.
