Magneto-optic effect
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003493
A phenomenon where light interacts with a material that is subjected to a magnetic field, resulting in changes to the light's polarization, intensity, or phase. This effect arises from the influence of the magnetic field on the electronic energy levels within the material. The Faraday effect, where the plane of polarization of linearly polarized light rotates, is a common example.
