Gunn effect
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002688
A phenomenon in certain semiconductor materials, such as gallium arsenide, where a strong electric field causes the electron velocity to decrease as the field strength increases beyond a threshold. This negative differential resistance leads to the formation of high-field domains that propagate through the material. The Gunn effect is the operating principle behind Gunn diodes, which generate microwave frequencies.
