Wing in ground effect

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006625

An aerodynamic phenomenon where the lift of an aircraft wing is significantly increased and drag is reduced when operating very close to a surface, such as water or land. This effect is caused by the compression of air between the wing and the surface, which alters the airflow around the wing. Specialized ground effect vehicles are designed to exploit this principle for efficient, high-speed travel just above the surface.
