Ground effect

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002663

The aerodynamic phenomenon that occurs when an aircraft flies very close to the ground or a surface, resulting in a reduction of induced drag and an increase in lift. This effect is caused by the compression of air between the wing and the surface, which alters the airflow around the wing. Ground effect is most noticeable during takeoff and landing, typically below one wing span's height.
