Slat

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005348

An aerodynamic control surface mounted on the leading edge of an aircraft's wing that extends at low airspeeds to increase lift and delay the aerodynamic stall. By opening a gap, the slat allows high-pressure air from below the wing to flow over the upper surface, maintaining smooth airflow at higher angles of attack. Slats are a type of high-lift device, often used in conjunction with trailing-edge flaps during takeoff and landing.
