Chain-propagating reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001857

A step in a chain reaction where a reactive intermediate (chain carrier) reacts with a stable molecule to form a product and a new reactive intermediate. This process sustains the chain, allowing the reaction to continue. The sum of all chain-propagating reactions constitutes the overall propagation phase of a chain reaction.
