Branching chain reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001480
A type of chain reaction where one reactive intermediate reacts to produce more than one new reactive intermediate, leading to an exponential increase in the reaction rate. This can result in rapid acceleration of the reaction, potentially leading to explosions. An example is the combustion of hydrogen and oxygen.
