Branching fraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001482
The probability that a radionuclide will undergo a specific decay pathway when multiple decay modes are energetically possible. It is expressed as a dimensionless ratio, representing the number of nuclei decaying via a particular mode divided by the total number of nuclei decaying. The sum of all branching fractions for a given radionuclide must equal one.
