Branching ratio

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001485

The fraction of a specific decay mode or reaction pathway relative to the total number of decays or reactions for a given radionuclide or excited state. It quantifies the probability of a particular outcome among several possible processes. For radioactive decay, the sum of all branching ratios for a nuclide equals one.
