Chain-shuttling polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001858
A coordinative chain-transfer polymerization in which two catalysts of different selectivity are linked by a chain-shuttling agent, usually a dialkylzinc, that carries growing chains back and forth between them. Each chain grows in segments on both catalysts, giving multiblock copolymers whose blocks differ in comonomer content or tacticity. The Dow olefin block copolymers, made from ethylene and 1-octene with diethylzinc as the shuttling agent, are the commercial example.
