Reversible-deactivation coordination polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010328
A reversible-deactivation polymerization whose chain carriers are coordination complexes, so propagation proceeds at a metal center while chains switch reversibly between active and dormant states. Coordinative chain-transfer polymerization is one example: a growing chain moves back and forth between the catalyst and a main-group metal alkyl acting as chain-transfer agent, and the chain held on that agent is the dormant species. The chain-transfer agent is typically a zinc or aluminium alkyl.
