Reversible chain deactivation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013502
A chemical reaction in which a propagating polymer chain is converted into a dormant species that is unable to add monomer units. This process is reversible, allowing the dormant chain to be reactivated and resume propagation at a later time. The equilibrium between active and dormant species is a defining characteristic of reversible-deactivation radical polymerization, distinguishing it from conventional free-radical polymerization where termination is irreversible.
