Reversible-deactivation polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013505

A class of polymerization techniques where the propagating species can reversibly interconvert between an active state, capable of chain growth, and a dormant state, where growth is temporarily halted. This dynamic equilibrium leads to a controlled polymerization process, allowing for the synthesis of polymers with predetermined molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Examples include atom-transfer radical polymerization and reversible-addition-fragmentation chain-transfer polymerization.
