Ionic mole fraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006112
For an ionized salt in solution, the amount of one of its ions divided by the total amount of all species present, with each dissolved salt counted as fully dissociated and the solvent included in the total. For a salt B giving ν+ cations per formula unit, the cation fraction is ν+ x_B divided by 1 plus the sum of (ν_i − 1) x_i over all solutes. The ionic mole fractions and the solvent fraction sum to 1.
