Diluent gas
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003214
An inert gas added to a sample or reaction mixture to reduce the concentration of the active components without participating in the chemical process. This is often done to control reaction rates, improve safety by reducing flammability, or to adjust the total flow rate in analytical instruments. Common diluent gases include nitrogen, helium, and argon.
