Dilute limit
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003215
The condition in secondary-ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) where the concentration of the species of interest is sufficiently low that its presence does not significantly alter the sputtering and ionization behavior of the matrix. Under this condition, the secondary-ion signal for a given species is directly proportional to its bulk concentration. This proportionality breaks down at higher concentrations, where matrix effects become more pronounced.
