Transformation probability

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012217

The probability that a specified parent atom or molecule at a surface is consumed by sputtering to give a specified charged or neutral product in secondary-ion mass spectrometry. It covers neutral as well as ionic products and leaves out the transmission and detection efficiency of the spectrometer, which enter separately in the useful yield. For ions its value varies strongly with the chemical environment, the matrix effect.
