  "definition": "A preparatory step in solvent extraction in which the solvent, or one phase, is first contacted with a solution of the other phase so that the extractant ends up in the chemical form wanted. It is carried out without the main extractable solute present, so the later extraction changes the phase volumes and the amounts of other components very little. It is also called conditioning or pre-equilibration.",
