Pre-ionization state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009388
An excited electronic state of an atom or molecule that lies above the first ionization limit but is still discrete. This state can decay either by emission of a photon (radiative decay) or by autoionization, where an electron is ejected. Such states are observed in photoionization spectroscopy.
