Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009389
The birth of an infant before the completion of the normal gestation period. It is specifically defined as birth occurring before 37 completed weeks of gestation, counting from the first day of the last menstrual period. Complications associated with premature birth are a leading cause of infant mortality and morbidity, as the infant's organ systems are not fully developed.
