Pre-embryo
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009375
The early human conceptus from fertilization to about day 14, covering cleavage of the zygote, the morula and the blastocyst, with implantation starting around day 6 to 7. The term was proposed to mark the period before the primitive streak forms and before twinning becomes impossible. The word is disputed, and many embryologists use embryo for the whole period from fertilization.
