Conditioning solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002393
A solvent passed through a solid-phase extraction sorbent prior to sample loading. The purpose is to wet the sorbent material and create a chemical environment on the stationary phase that is compatible with the sample matrix and conducive to the desired retention mechanism. For reverse-phase sorbents, this typically involves first washing with a strong organic solvent like methanol, followed by an aqueous solution similar to the sample solvent.
