Conditioning

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002391

The process of treating a phase with a solution to modify its properties before it is used in a chemical separation or analysis. This treatment can alter the surface chemistry or the bulk composition of the phase. For example, an ion-exchange resin might be conditioned with an acid or base to convert it to a specific ionic form.
