Modifier

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007455

A substance added to a solvent extraction system to alter the properties of the organic phase, such as its polarity or solvating power, without directly participating in the complexation of the analyte. Modifiers can influence the solubility of the extractant or the extracted complex, preventing phase separation or precipitation. Common modifiers include long-chain alcohols or tributyl phosphate.
