Crosscurrent extraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002713

A multistage extraction procedure where a sample is repeatedly extracted with fresh portions of the extracting solvent. After each extraction stage, the extracting phase is separated and collected before the next portion of fresh solvent is added to the sample phase. This method contrasts with countercurrent extraction, where the sample and solvent phases move in opposite directions through the extraction stages.
