Signal transducer and activator of transcription
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010854
A class of intracellular proteins that mediate cellular responses to cytokines and growth factors. Upon activation by Janus kinases (JAKs) at the cell surface receptor, these proteins dimerize, translocate to the nucleus, and bind to specific DNA sequences to regulate gene expression. The JAK/STAT signaling pathway, which involves these proteins, governs processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and immune response.
