Polytypic transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009250
A phase transition in a solid material where a substance changes its stacking sequence of close-packed layers, resulting in different polytypes with the same chemical composition but distinct crystal structures. This transition is often observed in materials like silicon carbide and zinc sulfide. The different polytypes can exhibit varied physical properties.
