Bainite transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001100
A phase transformation in steel that occurs at temperatures between those for pearlite and martensite formation, resulting in a microstructure called bainite. This transition involves a shear-like transformation of austenite to ferrite and carbide, but with diffusion of carbon. Bainite typically exhibits a fine, non-lamellar structure, providing a good combination of strength and toughness.
