Monotropic transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007566
A phase transition that proceeds in only one direction, meaning the reverse transition does not occur under the same conditions. This type of transition is thermodynamically irreversible, as the higher energy phase cannot be reformed from the lower energy phase by simply reversing the temperature change. An example is the transformation of white phosphorus to red phosphorus.
