Liquid crystal

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006675

A state of matter that exhibits properties intermediate between those of conventional liquids and solid crystals. It possesses long-range orientational order, like a crystal, but retains the fluidity of a liquid. This unique phase is characterized by anisotropic physical properties, such as optical birefringence, which can be manipulated by external fields.
