Liquid-crystalline phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006691
A state of matter where molecules exhibit properties between those of conventional liquids and solid crystals. It possesses a degree of long-range orientational order, similar to a crystal, but maintains the ability to flow like a liquid. This phase is characterized by anisotropic physical properties, such as optical birefringence, and can be influenced by temperature or external fields.
