Mesomorphic state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007219
A state of matter whose degree of molecular order lies between the full three-dimensional positional and orientational order of a crystal and the lack of long-range order in an isotropic liquid. It covers liquid-crystal phases, which keep orientational order, and also plastic crystals, where molecules keep positional order but rotate freely. A phase within this state is called a mesophase.
