Higher-order transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005291
A phase transition at which the first and second temperature and pressure derivatives of the Gibbs energy stay continuous, so that only a third-order or higher derivative jumps. It therefore has no latent heat and no jump in heat capacity, which separates it from a second-order transition, where the heat capacity is discontinuous.
