First-order phase transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004440

A phase transition characterized by a discontinuity in the first derivatives of the Gibbs free energy with respect to temperature and pressure. This discontinuity manifests as abrupt changes in properties such as enthalpy, entropy, and specific volume at the transition point. Examples include melting, boiling, and sublimation, where latent heat is absorbed or released.
