Specific volume

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011113

The quotient of a substance's volume divided by its mass, representing the volume occupied by a unit mass of that substance. It is an intensive property of matter and is the mathematical reciprocal of density, providing an alternative way to express how much space a substance occupies. Specific volume is expressed in units of volume per mass, such as cubic meters per kilogram (m³/kg) in the International System of Units, or milliliters per gram (mL/g) in laboratory settings.
