Specific surface area
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011112
The total surface area of a material per unit of its mass or volume. It quantifies the extent of the exposed surface of a substance, which is particularly relevant for porous materials or finely divided powders. This property is commonly measured using gas adsorption techniques, such as the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method.
