Specifically absorbing ion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011114

An ion that adsorbs onto a surface through chemical interactions or strong electrostatic forces, even against electrostatic repulsion, and is not fully hydrated in the adsorbed state. This adsorption is not solely dependent on the charge of the surface. Such ions can reverse the charge of a surface or lead to supra-equivalent adsorption.
