Order parameter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008301
A macroscopic quantity that characterizes the degree of order in a system undergoing a phase transition. Its value is typically zero in the disordered phase and non-zero in the ordered phase. For example, in a ferromagnetic transition, the magnetization can serve as an order parameter.
