Irreversible transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006161
A phase transition that cannot be reversed by simply changing the external conditions, such as temperature or pressure, back to their initial state. Once the transition has occurred, the original phase cannot be recovered without undergoing a different, often more complex, process. An example is the decomposition of a compound upon heating.
