Martensitic transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006963
A diffusionless, displacive phase transformation in a solid material, characterized by a rapid, cooperative movement of atoms that results in a change in crystal structure. This transition is typically shear-dominated and does not involve long-range atomic diffusion. It is well-known in steels, where it forms martensite.
