Optical purity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008276
A measure of the enantiomeric excess of a chiral substance, determined by comparing the observed optical rotation of a sample with the maximum optical rotation of the pure enantiomer. It is expressed as a percentage and indicates the proportion of one enantiomer over the other in a mixture. Optical purity is numerically equal to the enantiomeric excess for a given sample.
