Chiroptic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012978

Relating to the optical techniques used to investigate the stereochemical features of chiral substances. These methods rely on the differential interaction of a chiral molecule with left and right circularly polarized light. The primary chiroptic techniques are optical rotatory dispersion (ORD), which measures the variation of optical rotation with wavelength, and circular dichroism (CD), which measures the difference in absorption of left and right circularly polarized light.
