Ellipticity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003815

A measure of the degree to which polarized light deviates from linear or circular polarization, specifically referring to the ratio of the minor axis to the major axis of the polarization ellipse. In circular dichroism spectroscopy, it quantifies the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized light. Ellipticity is typically expressed in degrees or millidegrees.
